The second season of Kobayashi-san ended a while ago, and I can’t help but make comparisons and analysis of progression to the first season. So let’s take a look on how Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S has fared in keeping the fun going.
The first noticeable thing is the addition of an extra dragon to the main cast. And that is Ilulu. She is a dragon of the chaos faction and targets Tohru at first, but soon moves in with Kobayashi-san and the others. She differs from the previous dragon introductions because she first has to work hard to disguise as 100% human. Leading to some strange and hilarious attempts at her first try to form hands.
There’s also the addition of Ilulu’s coworker at the candy shop , high school student Taketo. Kobayashi-san already has a wide variety of different type of relationship of people, so the addition of the common anime character of a high school boy felt better placed. Since it wasn’t the center of attention at the beginning( like most other anime).
And when it comes to previous characters, the role of Elma is greatly expanded in this season (whereas she was introduced half way through in the first season). Material is taken from Elma’s solo manga, but it’s integrated into the anime without halting progress of other characters. We see her past revealed more and in the process giving us sight into the other characters.
Overall, the second season gives us new things to see while still maintaining the vibe of the previous season. It is definitely a must see for anybody who enjoyed the first season or who might be curious to jump in.
