WWE Over the Limit 2011 Predictions

WWE Over the Limit 2011 Predictions

If you’re reading this, that means you survived Judgment Day (not the WWE PPV’s). Congratulations! Your rewards for such an incredible feat is a B-grade WWE PPV. What do you mean that’s not a good prize? I could make you watch a TNA one, instead. Yeah, that’s what I thought!

This year’s event takes place at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington. The land of Starbucks and rain (not a Goth’s hangout) welcomes the stars of Raw, Smackdown and Superstars (yeah, right) for a 3-hour spectacular. If it’s anything like last year’s event, the WWE Universe will need to go “over the limit” to make it through the event, if you catch my drift.

The question on everybody’s mind is who will walking out of Seattle with their hands held high. If you’re not questioning that, then you have no soul (or money to see the show, such as myself). I’m here to break down the show’s matches and weigh in with my predictions. Why should I care, you ask? You shouldn’t. But, you’re here now, so you might as well make the best of it (just keep your pants on, please).

“I Quit” Match for the WWE Championship
John Cena vs. The Miz
JBL; Randy Orton; Batista; the IWC. All of these people have uttered the words “I Quit” to John Cena. Will the former WWE Champion, The Miz, be next in line to join this illustrious list? Will he find a way to make Mr. Five Knuckle Shuffle give in? Will this match become an annual tradition at Over the Limit?

It’s pretty much a given that Cena’s walking out as champion. He just won the title at Extreme Rules and has a slew of opponents to keep him busy until his showdown with The Rock at Wrestlemania XXVIII. Albeto Del Rio, R-Truth, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Rey Mysterio, John Morrison and Kofi Kingston are just a few men he could defend the title against. With The Miz, Cena, Mysterio, Morrison and Kingston are the only feuds I can see him engaging in. Not that those are bad choices. Cena just has better variety (one benefit of a face champion).

It’s also hard to imagine Miz making Cena utter the words “I Quit”. There are very few ways in which this can happen. One would be to steal the finish to the Rock/Mankind “I Quit” match from Royal Rumble 1999, which was use an audio recording of Cena saying “I Quit” over the loudspeaker. He could also take a fan or family member hostage and challenge Cena’s heart. That, or he could trick him into saying it by asking what match they’re having (steal this please, WWE).

There are a few more ways that the fine folks at the FAN forums have come up with. As great as some of those are (go there after this article and join in the discussion), I can’t see Miz walking out with the title. We’re going to be teased with whether or not Cena can hold the WWE Championship until Wrestlemania. Losing it now would be ludicrous.

Winner: John Cena

World Heavyweight Championship
Randy Orton vs. Christian
I was hoping I’d see Christian walking into Over the Limit as the World Heavyweight Champion. I knew his reign would be short, as it was a “Thank You” one. However, I seen it lasting at least a month or two. Even Jack Swagger had a two-month reign. Instead, I was treated to Christian losing the World title to Randy Orton five days after Extreme Rules on Smackdown.

If anything, it at least makes this rematch a bit more interesting. There’s an uncertainty on who’s walking out as champion, as many fans are irate over Christian’s loss. The WWE’s Facebook page was bombarded by angry Peeps (which is not a sequel to Angry Birds) after losing the title. There’s a chance they’ll right this wrong and give the World title back to him and give him a decent reign.

You can stop laughing now. As much as I would love this, I can’t see it happening. If the WWE didn’t trust Christian to even hold the title for a week, chances are they’re not going to give him another shot. Especially when his opponent is Randy Orton, one of their top stars. I’d love to be proven wrong, but I can’t see Captain Charisma walking out with the World title. Liven up the Age of Orton, as the Era of Charisma isn’t coming back.

Winner: Randy Orton

Kiss My Foot Match
Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Michael Cole
People tend to complain when too many sequels get made to films. The Saw series got lambasted for their many entries, as well as the Final Destination series for backing away on their retirement promise (just like Ric Flair). The WWE suffers from this problem, too. The only difference is that they drag a feud out for far too longer than it should be.

Case in point: Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole. A feud that shouldn’t have started in the first place has now spanned three PPV’s, one in which was the Granddaddy of ‘Em All. Why this didn’t end at Wrestlemania with King winning, I’ll never know. We’ve gone through countless weeks of tired insults and gimmick matches. Now, we get to see the final chapter (I hope so) in a Kiss My Foot Match. Or, as I like to call it, “Kiss WWE’s Ass And Like It” match.

King’s Hall of Fame ring is up for grabs, as well. Whether or not this one contains the same powers as Hulk Hogan’s, I hope to never find out. Remember how mighty and powerful Abyss became with his? Imagine Michael Cole with powers such as that. You’d wish the world actually did come to an end.

There’s no reason for Michael Cole to win here. There’s no reason for this feud to continue. There’s no reason for the “Kiss My Foot” match. There’s no reason that Cole’s foot should look like Lindsay Lohan after a night of partying. There’s no reason to waste four paragraphs on this inept match.

Winner: Jerry “The King” Lawler

Intercontinental Championship
Wade Barrett vs. Ezekiel Jackson
It was bound to happen eventually. The Corre breaking up was as predictable as a Michael Bay film. The WWE hates tag teams and, more importantly, factions. The Corre hasn’t looked good since their inception and have been showing signs of wear and tear for awhile. If it’s any consolation, at least Ezekiel is breaking free from the group and standing out on his own. We could have gotten a Slater & Gabriel break-up, instead (which is being hinted at, unfortunately).

Another good thing is that the Intercontinental Championship will actually be defended and is involved in a storyline. The last time that happened was when I hit puberty. I swear, the European Championship has gotten more face time that the Intercontinental title.

This match is a toss-up. On the one hand, Barrett and The Corre have been dominant over Ezekiel the past few weeks. Therefore, him winning the title is justice. On the other hand, I see this feud dragging out, which means Barrett retaining due to interference would prolong it. Not that Ezekiel winning would stop this feud dead in it’s tracks.

Barrett deserves a longer reign to rebuild himself. Jackson needs the victory to look strong. It’s kind of a lose-lose situation, which leads me to believe a disqualification will take place. If that’s the case, Barrett will be walking out with the title. Therefore, he’s my pick.

Winner: Ezekiel Jackson

WWE Tag Team Championship
Kane & Big Show (Flame Broiled) vs. CM Punk & Mason Ryan (New Nexus)
It’s hard to believe the New Nexus is still going strong. I, like many people, though it was dead once Randy Orton punted the whole group within the span of a Mento. Once Punk stated he didn’t care about the group outside of his own personal gain, I figured we’d seen the last of the group. Some people never learn.

If Randy Orton couldn’t get the job done, then Kane & Big Show surely can. It’s thanks to the Big Show that Punk’s last group, the Straight Edge Society broke up. Okay, he had assistance from Jack Daniels. Even so, he was an instigator in the ordeal and looks to do the same to the New Nexus. This time, I can’t blame him.

Punk’s reign as Nexus leader started off strong, but has fizzled out quicker than a Tara Reid film at the Box Office. Nobody has gained anything from the group, outside of Punk. Even then, it’s dropped him down the card a bit and he’s suffered quite a few hefty losses in the past few months.

I see him getting back on track here, but for only a short while. It’s clear that the WWE’s hinting towards a Mason/Punk showdown, which will most likely be saved for Summerslam. To keep them busy, they’ll have a short reign as Tag Team Champions. It’s not as if there’s any other team for Kane & Big Show to face (sorry, Ryder/Hawkins fans).

Winners: New Nexus

Grudge Match
Rey Mysterio vs. R-Truth
The latest installment in the ‘Chronicles of Little Jimmy’ continues with this new chapter, ‘The Liars, the Bitch and the Mysterio’. With Morrison out on injury (and eating nasty hospital food), R-Truth needs to keep busy. He’s chosen to save us from another Mysterio/Del Rio feud and give us something fresh, for once. That’s what’s up!

This is all the Anonymous Raw GM’s fault, as he gave Mysterio a #1 Contender’s Match over R-Truth. That probably has to do with the fact that Truth lost his title shot a few weeks ago like an idiot and has the win/loss record similar to the Detroit Lions.

A win here would give him momentum, which is sorely needed. If he’s to be taken seriously as a heel, he needs at least a few victories under his belt. If Cody Rhodes could beat Rey at Wrestlemania, then Truth certainly can at Over the Limit. And that’s not an insult to Rhodes (he’s much better than Truth).

Winner: R-Truth

Grudge Match

Sin Cara vs. Chavo Guerrero

The WWE has picked the perfect opponent for Sin Cara’s PPV debut. Not just in wrestling quality, but storyline wise, as well. Chavo accusing Sin Cara of stealing from him (got to love that irony) and being his inspiration is so simple, yet very effective. It gives Sin Cara something to bounce off of and show his characteristics. Him standing up to Chavo after his “assistance” in Cara’s clash with Daniel Bryan was a good example of this.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Sin Cara will be walking out with his hand held high. The only chance I see for a Guerrero victory is via cheating, that way to keep the feud going. Nothing against Chavo, but that does more harm than good to Cara. He needs an undefeated streak to really put him over. It’s not necessary, as he’s already a hot commodity. It wouldn’t hurt one bit, though.

Call it predictable all you want. I expect this match to steal the show and am looking forward to it. Sometimes, that’s all I want out of wrestling. A tremendous match with a good back story. Sin Cara vs. Chavo Guerrero has delivered on it’s story. Here’s hoping the match does so, too.

Winner: Sin Cara

Divas Championship
Brie Bella vs. Kelly Kelly
Remember how at Wrestlemania XXVII, everybody’s focus during the The Miz vs. John Cena match was on the stage, as many were waiting for The Rock’s arrival. I feel the same thing will happen during this contest at Over the Limit, as the audience will be awaiting the arrival of Kharma. The only difference here is this match isn’t nearly as important (no offense).

It’s also more predictable than that match, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing. With the way that Kharma’s been toying with Kelly Kelly, it’s clear they’re building towards a (quick) showdown between the two. If Kharma hadn’t already gotten a taste of one Bella (man, did that sound dirty), then I’d be more inclined to pick Brie.
Not that she doesn’t have a chance. Kharma is a tweener right now, due to attacking both faces and heels. They can go either way with this match and still have Kharma challenging for the title at Capitol Punishment. I’m seeing a showdown with K-Squared as a better possibility.

Winner: Kelly Kelly
