Once upon a time, none of us wanted to grow up because we were all Toys R Us kids. And while it might be a stretch to say they had a million toys, they had Stretch Armstrong, GI Joe, and every Star Wars toy you could dream of. Those days are coming to a rapid end, as Toys R Us is officially closing up shop in the US.
The only silver lining in this destruction of our collective childhoods? The liquidation sale kicks off today. It’s set to run for the next 14 weeks. From action figures to Barbies and even video games, the race for deals is on. That’s right – despite protests from the big guys, like Mattel and Lego, everything is up for grabs.
As the 14 week timespan moves on, the deals are sure to get better but stock is sure to run out. Previous tips and tricks for saving dough on toys and collectables might not apply, but it’s still probably prudent to check prices against other big retailers like Wal-Mart and Amazon (who Toys R Us blames for putting them in this position).
This might be your last chance to say more games, more toys, oh boy!
Update: Keep your money in your wallets, kids! Looks like the liquidation sale is on hold. The company hopes to have it resume on Friday.
