Well humans, the anime spring season is right around the corner. Time for me to take a look at what Japan has to offer. As usual, I’ll pick six shows and see what stands out among the wave of anime. So let’s get to it!
Bartender: kami no glass
In a hidden bar in Ginza, bartender Ryuu Sasakura serves one of a kind cocktails and serves customers from many walks of life.
This show looks like it’ll use the not often used anthology format in anime, and I look forward how it uses it with each episode. A quasi sequel to the series Bartender from 2006.
Tensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru
A salaryman dies and is reborn a noble’s son, in a world on the brink of warfare of a revolt. What he lacks in magic or swordplay skill, he makes up with the talent of appraisal.
A unique twist on the overused genre of isekai, I’m looking forward to seeing how this character uses his unique skill to advance himself and those around him, as well finding the strengths of those he meets.
Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai
An illustrator, a former idol, a vtuber, and a composer wander the streets of Shibuya in search of adventure. All while having one special encounter.
This one has an interesting ensemble cast made up of different types of artists, and is sure to give us something good.
The Fable
A hitman must take a year off from work after his boss deems his kill count too high. He must avoid killing, and live a life as an ordinary citizen or face dire consequences.
This is an interesting take on the criminal underworld of Japan, and sure to stand out among other of this season.
Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi
A bookstore clerk who aspires to be a novelist starts to discover odd occurrences around the city, and teams with her coworker as the occult and the supernatural ensues.
This looks like a good, dark mystery that will unravel with intrigue for us to see with each episode.
Kenka Dokugaku
A nerdy young man unexpectedly finds himself profiting from a fight he got into that got uploaded online. He then ventures forth in video recordings of himself fighting bullies in order to pay off his mother’s hospital bills.
Based on a Korean webtoon, this show has an interesting use of modern social media.
So there it is. I usually give a show a three episode view before deciding if it is worth watching all the way through. Happy viewings!
