*Spoilers Ahead*
Throughout this latest season of The Walking Dead there has been a lack of focus on Daryl, Sasha and Abraham as the three have been given the task of luring the herd of walkers far from Alexandria. This week the focus is squarely on them and it’s mostly an entertaining affair.
Daryl gets split from Sasha and Abraham after they are attacked by what seems to be another hostile group and things only get worse once he’s knocked out and taken captive by a trio who believe him to be part of the group they are trying to escape from. We only get slight info on them and the group they’re fleeing but given that they end up taking Daryl’s crossbow and bike by the end this won’t be the last we see of these guys.
The Walking Dead has never been a show known for being particularly subtle but it holds a bunch of it’s cards close to the vest regarding this new group. We see that they are capable and that they apparently have the tools to burn down an entire forest but the rest is more or less a mystery for now.
Elsewhere, Sasha and Abraham have wrecked their car in the ambush and seek shelter. It becomes clear to them that they were actually in the wrong place at the wrong time as the group was planning to ambush the folks Daryl meets. Abraham eventually meets a walker with an RPG impaled on a pole and attempts to wrestle the RPG from it. It turns out though that once he sits back and lets gravity do the work he gets the prize anyway.
The story ends up being about Abraham’s recklessness and his need to always immediately deal with a situation. When he finally steps back and waits the situation takes care of itself. He even gets a new outfit out of the deal and possible new romance between him and Sasha.
While I enjoyed Daryl’s story a bit more it was nice to get some focus on all of these characters since they’ve been on the backburner while everything else has gone to hell. Sasha still isn’t given much to do and I have some concerns regarding a possible romance between her and Abraham but the episode does establish a nice chemistry between them.
In the end, Daryl loses his bike but gains a fuel truck and manages to find Abraham and Sasha again as they head back to Alexandria but not before hearing a cryptic “help” from the radio. Is it Glenn? Is it Rick? Is it someone else entirely? We’ll have to find out next week!
Bits ‘n Pieces
- I’d say odds are on it being someone from Alexandria but we’ll see.
- Fans of the comic should know way more about all the stuff that happened in Daryl’s story this week.
- Speaking of Daryl’s story, the insulin girl was one of the more pointless characters in the series history. She existed only to give the other two a reason to want to go back to their group. Not to mention she was a complete idiot.
- So are we ignoring that Abraham and Rosita are a thing? In fact, when was the last time Rosita even did anything of importance?
