Silent Knight from Perth are the Australian Kings of Power Metal and have been proving so since forming in 2011. Forging forward with a blistering paced blend of traditional power metal with a harder thrashier edge in the vain of Megadeth or Iced Earth.
Having released their debut album “Masterplan” in 2013 to much critical acclaim they have now released their follow up album “Conquer and Command”.
Building a major national following by touring and supporting the likes of former Iron Maiden vocalists Paul Dianno and Blaze Bayley as well as Finnish folk metallers Korpiklaani the metal masses have been eagerly awaiting the release of “Conquer and Command” and they have not been disappointed.
With the addition of new vocalist Jesse Onur Oz and drummer Dan Grainger the band seem to be completely on top of their game. The main thing i love about this album compared to any other power metal out there today is that while they still are masters of keeping the music melodic they manage to combined it with the blistering guitars and incredible double bass driven drums perfectly. A major problem I have with most traditional power metal bands is i tend to find them incredibly boring. These guys are so far from boring.
The album kicks off with the opening instrumental and then slams straight into the title track of the album. The drumming is fantastic, double bass mania from start to finish which keeps the album driving forward and never slowing down. Onur Oz’s vocals are soaring with an amazing range, its not surprise he also fronts a Maiden tribute band with pipes like that.
With such phenomenal tracks across the entire album like “Prisoner Of Your World”, “Strike of the Sword”, “One By One” and “Power Metal Supreme” there is never a lull on the album. Its just one great track after another with the band never slacking for one moment. The band is tight from start to finish with the galloping riffs and thundering drums pounding your face in every step of the way.
They then close out the album with a blistering cover of the Europe classic “The Final Countdown” which has been a long staple of the bands live set and the crowd always goes nuts for.
This album is a true masterpiece and one of the highlights of 2015 and I consider myself very lucky to have seen them live when they were over this side of the country.
This is a must own, for fans of Iron Maiden, Helloween, Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray among others. Definitely grab is one now you will not be disappointed
