The Flash Episode 13
“The Nuclear Man”
This week on The Flash, Barry had dating issues, Caitlin had fiance issues, and Cisco is a cop for a day. But lets get to the main story first. Ronnie, who we have seen a few times recently as a Johnny Storm type fire character was the focus this week. He apparently had merged with a Professor Stein during the particle accelerator incident and is back trying to fix his/their problems. We learned a little about this last week, but apparently it is Ronnie’s body with Stein’s mind? It was a little confusing to me too. The two cannot co-exist in the same body and is causing the cells to fight against each other and they are a walking nuke. So the star labs team tries to help them. But at the end it seems to no avail, or is it? Come on, it’s a comic book show, no one is ever really dead. But we will see.
And Barry was having other issues this week as well. Trying to date while being a superhero is a tricky line to walk. Barry is learning while he tries to go on a few dates with his new love interest Linda. The first date Barry had to run out a few times to stop a robbery or save a suicidal man, but all at convenient times when Linda was away. The second date, which turned into a big makeout session, leading to more maybe before it was interrupted when Barry had to run off to deal with Fireman (Yes a bad name I know). Linda isn’t fond of this and talks to Iris about Barry, and Iris causes trouble saying Barry is hung up on someone, not mentioning it was her. But in the end, Barry proves to Linda he is not hung up on anyone and wants to be with her.
Lastly, Cisco helped Joe try to go back and find out more about Barry’s mothers murder. They check the crime scene, and Cisco finds out Joe thinks Professor Wells may be involved. This does not make Cisco happy of course, but after finding some evidence at the murder scene using some sci-fi weirdness, they get some clues. After examining one of these clues in the form of blood, Cisco analyzes it and finds it is adult Barrys blood. Don’t ask me either, cause I don’t know. The Flash is time traveling? Hmmmmmm…..
Overall, it was a fun episode. It was nice to see some conclusion to Fireman, at least for now. And one of the opening scenes where Cisco, Caitlin, and Barry are talking about his date life where they warn him about moving too fast being a joke on him being too quick in bed got a giggle out of me. They tried explaining the Ronnie/Stein combination, but it still seemed a bit confusing to me. The same thing can be said for Cisco using his CSI skills at the crime scene of Barrys mom.
This episode also helped or hurt some characters depending on how you look at it. Caitlin, for example, seemed to move one step forward, two steps back. After last week, where she seemed to be starting to get over Ronnie, was not as over him as it seemed. She wasn’t willing to let him/Stein die even if he blew up Central City. Iris also showed a bit of jealousy towards Barry moving on. Is she regretting her decision to not give Barry a chance after he told her his feelings? Only time will tell. I just hope if they are planning on getting them together, they don’t drag it out. I’ve seen too many shows that drag that out for WAY too long.
We also have a new story that is building up. A project Firestorm that Professor Stein was working on before he melded with Ronnie was mentioned at the end after the nuclear detonation. Hey Firestorm, that would’ve been a better name instead of Fireman. Don’t ask me to name any superheroes or villains. Lastly, what the heck happened with that man ape thing that showed up at the end of last weeks episode? I better find out soon.
The Good And The Bad
+ We got a Ronnie centric story that they had been building for awhile. Whether this is the end or not, we shall see.
+ Although there wasn’t much action this week, there was enough story to keep me involved.
+ Showing Barry willing to fight to impress a girl is nice. It makes it look like he truly is moving on from Iris.
+ On the other side, Iris seeming to have issues with Barry moving on.
– Maybe this one is just me, but the explanation of the Ronnie/Stein merge and how Cisco was able to capture pictures of the murder of Barrys mom was just weird and confusing. I was never good in science though so maybe that is part of it.
– Caitlin can’t catch a break. She start’s to get over Ronnie, then there he is again and she is back at square one.
– No man ape? Oh well, sometime soon
