Unforgiven Part 2~!
– After Lillian Garcia suggests that Mae and Moolah should stay out of Jeff Jarrett’s business, the old OG’s try to respond but Ivory interrupts him and tells them that she is a real WWF Women’s champion unlike that old bitty Moolah. Moolah apparently wants the esteemed honor of being called a goon in this series as she kicks Ivory’s ass with no effort and works her over with Mae. Before they can presumably curb stomp the poor girl, security rushes in to break it up.
Match #6
Tag Team Championship
New Age Outlaws(c) vs. Edge & Christian
– Edge & Christian are pretty over by this point. Initially, this match was booked as the Rock N’ Sock Connection vs. Edge & Christian but the Outlaws won the titles on the Smackdown before this show.
– The Outlaws get plenty of cheers when they come out so I have no idea if they are supposed to be heels or not. “Rah-Rah” promo time from Road Dogg as he does the usual introduction for the Outlaws. They are certainly acting like faces and they are as over as ever.
– Lots of blonde in the ring as Edge and Mr. Ass start out the match. After breaking even on a lockup, they lockup again as Edge Hammerlocks Gunn’s arm. They go through a neat little sequence which ends with Edge getting the better of it. Mr. Ass soon counters a headlock with a Back Suplex and tags in his partner.
– A Small Package from Dogg only gets a two before Christian gets tagged in. I see a “Pimpin’ Aint Easy” sign in the crowd. Anyway, I guess the Outlaws are supposed to be heels as Gunn yanks on Christian’s hair in a dastardly fashion while standing on the apron. Dogg Yakuza Kicks Christian before telling him to suck it with crotch chops.
– “Are you a big fan of their’s, JR? Do you like it doggy style?”- The King “Excuse me!?”- JR. JR should have said pause.
– The Outlaws work over Christian for a bit as Gunn applies his awful Camel Clutch. Edge gets tagged in and is immediately met with Dogg’s signature punch jab. In a very heelish move, Christian illegally throws RD into the steel steps on the outside behind the ref’s back. So, are they the heels or…? Because, both teams sure are getting cheered like babyfaces and are being put over by the announcers as babyfaces. I’m guessing this is classic Russo “shades of grey” bullshit.
– OK, the crowd has started to boo E & C so I’m guessing they just established themselves as the de-facto heels of the match. Sure enough, like heels, they cut the ring in half and start getting the heat on Dogg, working the champ over with restholds. A Double Crossbody (hate that stupid spot) puts both men down but Edge gets tagged in before RD can make the hot tag.
– E&C continue to work over James, hitting some cool tandem moves in the process, before the leader of the Dogg Pound manages to turn a Double Flapjack attempt into a Double DDT.
– Mr. Ass finally gets tagged in and makes a great hot tag comeback, culminating with him hitting an awesome Powerslam on Christian. Match breaks down as all four participants get in the ring. Dogg molests Christian by dry-humping him before getting hit with a Spear by Edge. Know what this match needs? RUN-INS!~ Matt Hardy & Gangrel yank Christian out of the ring as Jeff Hardy hits a Dropkick off the top on Edge. Mr. Ass goes, “Thank You, Based Brood” and takes advantage of the run in by hitting a Fame-Asser on Christian and getting the win!
– Edge & Christian no-sell the hell out of the loss so they can chase the Brood to the back as the Outlaws celebrate with the titles in the ring. That was…hmm. It wasn’t really bad and the actual action was pretty solid but the psychology seemed ass-backwards to me. Edge & Christian started the match as faces, seemingly turned heel in the middle of the match, and then got screwed out of the match by other heels. …What? So, it was a technically sound match but I couldn’t get into it.
– A video recap is shown of the British Bulldog costing the Rock a Texas Bullrope match on Smackdown against HHH. LMAO, I would hope that Rock has learned to refuse to wrestle in any match with a special ref on Smackdown by this point.
– Backstage with Lilian Garcia, HHH and British Bulldog are wearing their wrestling trunks and a t-shirt looking like complete goobers as they wait for the interview to start. Bulldog says that he turned on the Rock because he’s too cocky. What up, you Brits all fed up because Rock’s got little chedda and his records movin’ out tha store? HHH says…something, I didn’t really care enough to listen, I’ll be honest. Something about him getting the title back tonight, I think.
– Interviewed by our good buddy Michael “Black As” Cole, The Big Bossman cuts a promo hyping up the Kennel From Hell match. Oh my lord, that’s on this show? LOL, I had no idea. Bossman shows why he may have been in the best heel in the company at this point by saying that he doesn’t regret a damn thing he’s done to Pepper (who has been eaten by this point) and Snow and threatens to shove his nightstick right up Cole’s ass! He says he’s gonna murk Snow and walks off, leaving Cole frightened and/or excited by the idea of a nightstick going up his poop chute.
Match #7
Kennel From Hell Match
Hardcore Championship
Al Snow(c) vs. The Big Bossman
– They are two cages in this match. A Hell in a Cell cage and a regular blue cage surrounding the ring. The winner must exit both cages and there will be dogs in the second cage. At least, that’s what I gathered from the announcers.
– Backstage with Lillian, Snow promises to get revenge for his dog and calls Bossman fat twice in the same sentence.
– Also, for some reason, Snow is the champ now so I guess he won it back after losing it on the first Smackdown.
– Bossman’s eye is all messed up so I guess something happened to it on Raw. Not surprisingly, Bossman is cautious about entering the Cell as the last time he was in there, he was literally hanged.
– Both men brawl outside of the ring to start off the match, making the first cage useless right off the bat. Snow whacks Bossman with his own nightstick before running back in the ring and locking the door to the first cage. The dogs are being brought down the ramp as the former CO looks scared. Hahaha, one of the dogs pisses on the floor right on camera as the Rottweilers are brought into the Cell. Bossman is like “hell nah” and tries to climb over the first cage to get back into the ring. Snow keeps him at bay, however, with the metal part of a shovel.
– Both men brawl at the top of the first cage as Snow gets brought over the cage and teases falling to the floor. The dogs appear to have beef with each other as they start barking at one another, giving Snow the chance needed to jump off the first cage and leap onto the Cell wall. He does his best Spiderman impersonation as he scales the Cage, eventually winding back on top of the first cage. Bossman cuts Snow off and I think one of the dog handlers is Big Black Boykin from “Rob and Big.”
– Snow gets Suplexed back into the ring and both men are down. It sounds like a DMX song as the dogs keep barking. Snow bladed at some point and now Bossman is beating him with a cookie sheet. The heel grabs a pair of pliers and cuts open the top of the cell, giving an opening to escape. Before he can take it, Snow whacks him with a stick which Bossman totally no-sells so he can lay him out with a punch.
– In a great dickbag move, Bossman slaps the pliers on Snow’s ear before pulling out some white powder. Huh, so that’s why Bossman’s vest has all those pockets. Shit is like Batman’s utility belt. Bossman tries to put that brick in Snow’s face but Al knows what to do with it and sends it flying into the heel’s face. Bossman better have Snow’s money when he comes to collect. I so don’t care about this match at this point if you can’t tell yet.
– Snow causes the Cobb County native’s eye to bleed after hitting him with a metal stick or something. Bossman has two cuts on his head as Snow tries to convince the dogs to bite his hand through the cage. The dogs are like “nah, I’m straight brah” so Bossman starts fighting back. The former CO hits the champ with a super light shot to the head with the shovel. I was about to go in on him for that but not even a second later, he just whacks Snow in the back of the head with it while he’s on the ground selling. Freaking ouch.
– Snow gets handcuffed to the turnbuckles as Bossman attempts to escape. The bayface breaks free of his restraints as the crowd collectively goes “well, that’s enough of this shit” and begins booing.
– Head gets a big pop as Snow uses the mannequin head to lay out Bossman. The match turns into a race as both men frantically try to escape both cages. Snow heads for the Cell door while Bossman tries to escape through the opening he made in the top of the cell at the beginning of the match. I guess Bossman really is fat as Snow wins the race and retains his title!
– With blood all over his face, Bossman pouts on top of the cell as Snow celebrates up the ramp. Dookie match. It wasn’t even really good from a train-wreck perspective, it was just a bad, boring match. They tried really hard but this was a dumb idea for a match. AND, on top of all of that, the dogs played no factor on the match whatsoever besides literally pissing on it. They don’t even do anything in the post match as Bossman sprints out of both cages before they can get to him. A worthless match in every possible aspect.
– Mankind cuts a promo backstage where he talks about how the dozens (“AND DOZENS!”) of Mankind fans will root for the Rock N’ Sock Connection in the main event. He says that when the time comes, he’ll do what he does best and whoop the Rock’s candy ass. “…Don’t tell him I said that.”- Mankind. Tremendous.
Match #8
Chris Jericho (w/ Mr. Hughes) vs. X-Pac
– Because backstage geeks have to take down the cage from the last match, Jericho gets an extended entrance and takes full advantage of it by flexing for the gram. Before the match, Jericho cuts a promo where he welcomes the crowd to “Charlotte is Jericho!” Jericho, once again, buries the shit out of the PPV by calling it boring and saying that he’s gonna save both the show and Charlotte.
– X-Pac gets a big reaction as he comes out. This very well could be the best match on the show. Mr. Hughes’s face is staying on mean-mug mode. BTW, somebody in the crowd has a sign that says “Why Too Gay.” Get it? Because wrestling fans are homophobic.
– Early on in the match, there’s a big breakdown in communication between the two as Jericho seemingly gets lost in the middle of a sequence forcing Pac to improvise and hit him with a Hip Toss. They try to save face with a Double Kip-Up spot.
– Jericho ducks under a Spinning Heel Kick and lays out Pac with a Clothesline. Since they are in Charlotte, Jericho fires off some knife-edge chops in the corner before Pac reverse an Irish-Whip and works over Jericho with his educated feet. The degenerate goes for the Bronco Buster but has to put the brakes on as Y2J moves out of the way.
– Pac goes for the X-Factor but Jericho counters with a Spinebuster. He tries to slap on the Walls of Jericho but Pac counters by sending him out of the ring. Pac dies a death as he tries to hit a Splash by jumping off the second turnbuckle in the ring to the outside but instead goes SPLAT! as he hits the protective mats.
– In clear view of the ref, Mr. Hughes takes the babyface down with a Clothesline. It’s a scab ref though (Tom Pritchard, in fact, so I guess he magically healed from being Pedigreed earlier in the night) so Hughes only gets a stern warning. Again, this storyline would be much more effective if stuff like this didn’t happen on every PPV in 99’.
– Jericho gets a nearfall with a Missile Dropkick. He orders the ref to “ASK HIM!” as he puts Pac in a Bow & Arrow submission. For some incredibly odd reason, the crowd boos as Pac teases making a comeback before getting sent back down to the mat. LMAO, there must be some kind of fight or something happening in the crowd as you can clearly see most of the fans on the hard camera side looking behind them and not at all paying attention to the match.
– A lot of the crowd is still not paying attention as Jericho slaps on a sleeper. Sucks to be Jericho and Pac since this match isn’t bad at all. Hahaha, the crowd cheers for whatever they are watching other than the match and JR tries to play it off like they are rallying behind Pac despite the fact that 80% of the audience clearly has their back to the ring. Fail.
– It gets to the point where even a couple of the ringside photographers have to look back and see what’s going on in the crowd. The crowd suddenly starts booing again and it just so happens that it perfectly lines up with Pac teasing another comeback so it comes off like the valiant babyface is getting booed. Man, these guys just can’t win tonight.
– Jericho hits the Lionsault and starts laying into Pac with punches.and slaps him around a bit before pinning him for a two count. Seemingly realizing that they’ve totally lost the crowd, both guys decide to pick up the pace a bit as Pac takes a huge bump off a Jericho Dropkick and goes flying off the apron to the floor. Crowd still doesn’t really care as they chant something that I can’t quite make out but I can tell has nothing to do with the match.
– Pac finally makes a comeback as the crowd gets into the match a bit. He stiffs (or maybe both guys are really great and they just made it look stiff, it could go either way here) Jericho on a Spin Kick before Pac takes out Mr. Hughes with a Dropkick through the ropes. A Springboard Clothesline gets Pac close to heading to the pay windah but Jericho gets his shoulder up. The crowd is finally paying attention to the match as Pac goes for the Bronco Buster again only to get a Jericho boot square in the nuts! Ref just shakes his head disapprovingly as Jericho hits a Senton off the top rope for a cover. One, two, HE”S GOT HI- NO! Pac kicks out.
– Jericho tries to go back to the well as he heads up top again but gets crotched on the turnbuckle by the degenerate and brought crashing down to the mat with a Superplex. After both men get back to their feet. Y2J counters a Hurricarana attempt with a Double Powerbomb. Jericho crawls into the cover as Pac gets his shoulder up. This match has gone on too long. Feels like it’s gone on forever even though I’m sure it’s been less than 15 minutes.
– In a spot that can only be described as homosexual, Jericho winds up in the “Tree of Woe” position in the corner leading to Pac finally hitting the Bronco Buster. I guess watching his boss get tea-bagged is too much for Mr. Hughes to handle as he gets in the ring and lays out both the ref and Pac. The ref is like, “hold on, this dude put his hands on ME? RING THE BELL!” so I guess Pac wins via DQ. Doesn’t matter as the heels start stomping away at Pac.
– Reinforcements for Pac arrive in the form of Road Dogg as he runs out and helps his fellow degenerate clear the ring. Pac is announced as the winner as Jericho angrily kicks the steps at having his plan foiled. And he would have got away with it too if it wasn’t for that meddling Road Dogg!
– Not a terrible match but wow, this fell way below my expectations. It was really hurt by the crowd not caring about 85-90% of it due to something happening in the crowd. The fact that it had too many near falls and the actual in-ring work was fairly sloppy at times didn’t help either. In front of a more attentive crowd, I’m sure I would like this match a lot more but yeah, not either man’s best night.
– Main event time. A video is played highlighting how big a heel HHH is. Hey, to all you goofballs that say HHH needs to swing his sledgehammer like you would a baseball bat, he actually did that at first as he murks Kane and Show with with shots from Sledgie.
– LMAO. The video shows how Austin tried to kill HHH in the build to this show by locking him in an ambulance and then running a Semi-Truck into the ambulance. A graphic then pops up informing us that Austin was arrested for…assault. Not attempted murder, not kidnapping, not even grand theft auto. Just assault. Pro-wrestling, everybody.
– The recap shows how Vince won the WWF title on Smackdown thanks to interference from Austin. I kinda want to watch that match now. Looks super dramatic. Vince had to give up the title though because technically, he’s not supposed to be involved in WWF affairs as per the stipulations of the main event at Fully Loaded in July. Somehow, Austin made it so Vince was reinstated in exchange for a future title match when he’s healed up. Vince also makes the Rattlesnake the special ref since all of the refs are on strike. We all caught up on the story now? Good.
– Lots of unprotected chair shots to the head in this video so that’s no good.
Match #9
WWF Championship
Six-Pack Challenge
Special Guest Enforcer: “Stone Cold” Steve Austin
HHH vs. The Rock vs. Mankind vs. The Big Show vs. Kane vs. the fucking British Bulldog
– Bulldog’s theme is horrendous. He appears to be in good shape though, I’ll give him that much.
– Charlotte loves them some Rocky. They love Austin more though. Forget about the Young Bucks, Austin is the one that should be using #over #MakingTowns. Despite being the guest enforcer, the Rattlesnake takes a seat at the commentary booth so he can do play-by-play.
– As promised, Rocky and Bulldog start off the match. The Great One runs wild on Bulldog’s monkey ass before the Brit cuts him off and tags in HHH. The Game beats on Rock for a bit before taking a swing at Kane for no reason. Rock takes advantage and starts making a comeback.
– Great spot where Rock does his thing where he spits in his hand before throwing one final punch but this time, Kane takes advantage and tags himself in by slapping his outstretched hand. Rocky is surprisingly cool with this as long he gets in one final punch on that d-bag HHH.
– Kane and HHH dick around for a bit until Kane hits an ugly Powerslam. The Big Red Machine knocks Show off the apron for being such a doofus but the World’s Largest Athlete gets his revenge by knocking Kane off the top before he can hit “The Kane Clothesline.” Shouldn’t that have counted as a tag? Whatever.
– Hahaha, HHH, selling after getting beat on by Kane, blindly crawls into a corner and tags himself out so he can get a breather. Once he realizes that he tagged in Mankind, however, he immediately hits him because he hates that guy.
– Mankind starts beating up HHH but gets cut off by an uppercut from Kane. Mindless brawling ensues before Show gets tagged in by Mankind. They have a perfectly acceptable big man battle before Kane nails an Enzuigiri and Show is forced to tag out to British Bulldog.
– A whole lot of dicking around happens and somehow we wind up with Rock and Bulldog as the legal men. The Brahma Bull beats on the Brit for a bit before getting an uppercut to the nuts. I will say, Bulldog doesn’t look bad at all. He’s holding his own and doesn’t come off nearly as out of place as I thought he would. Mankind gets tagged in by Bulldog but, despite all that tough talk before the match, he has no interest in fighting his good buddy Rocky as he immediately tags out to Kane.
– Kane goes for the Tombstone but the Great One manages to slip out the back and hit a Russian Leg Sweep. There’s some teamwork between the Rock N’ Sock Connection as Foley holds up his foot so Rock can throw Kane’s face into it. Mankind is now legal. He manages to low blow Kane and connect with a Piledriver but the crowd doesn’t even notice as they are too busy riding Rocky’s nuts.
– HHH gets tagged in by Kane and the Game immediately goes to work on Foley. It’s a WWF title match so of course, they have to brawl up the ramp. WOW, NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE.
– HHH counters a Suplex attempt on the ramp and both men are down. I guess the Rock was thinking to himself, “man, this is poopy” as he runs down the ramp and lays out HHH for literally no reason other than he can. He also punches HHH in the dick because come on, how many of you wouldn’t do that if you had the chance?
– All six competitors wind up brawling on the ramp and near the soundstage. Keep in mind that HHH and Mankind are still the legal men. Foley kills HHH with a Piledriver on the steps. HHH made that look like complete death. “HHH got dropped on his head and he got a wedgie! He lost all the way around!”- JR
– Mankind goes into the ring and Bulldog starts beating on him so I don’t know if HHH is still legal. Whatever, Foley decides that his friendship with Rock is more important than the title as he lets Rock tag in and holds Bulldog so he can get in a cheap shot. The match has turned into a mess as HHH should still be the legal man but he’s not because the storyline doesn’t call for it. Sorry if the recap of this match is hard to follow or just isn’t interesting to read, guys. There’s a lot going on and there’s only so many ways I can write “so and so tagged in and brawled with so and so.”
– Show gets tagged in by Bulldog as Rocky tags in Kane and…wait. The refs are coming down the ramp. They watch the match from ringside as Foley gets tagged in and does some meaningless brawling with Kane. No wait, that’s Big Show. God, this recap sucks, haha.
– Show slams Foley down and connects with an Elbow Drop. He goes for the cover but Rocky is right there to save his big homie and keep the match going. Mankind tags in Rock and the Brahma Bull starts laying the Smackdown on Show’s candy ass. The crowd is fully behind The Great One as he manages to knock Show off his feet after multiple attempts. Rock goes for a cover but HHH breaks it up.
– Haha, Rock and HHH start brawling near the announce table and you can clearly see Austin politely sipping on a nice cold Steveweiser. Rocky snatches the beer from Austin and spits the alcohol all over HHH! Austin, to his credit, takes this in stride as he simply opens up another beer and says that he might have to open up a can of whoop ass on Rock if he ever does that again.
– Somehow, Kane and Mankind are the legal men. Don’t know how, don’t care. In a pretty cool spot, Mankind tries to slap on a sleeper but Kane manages to muscle Foley up for a Tombstone! Kane goes for the cover…only to realize that while he was setting up the Tombstone, Show tagged himself in. Bumblefuck The Giant goes for a Chokeslam but Kane doesn’t take lightly to being forced out of the match as he hits “The Kane Clothesline” on Show.
– The match breaks down as Bulldog sneaks in and hits a Powerslam on Kane. In what I guess is supposed to be a SWERVE~!, HHH Pedigrees Bulldog. So, their alliance lasted all of three days. Rocky decides he has to get in on the action as he sends HHH to the outside with some punches. Before he can celebrate, however, The People’s Champ turns around into a Double Arm DDT from his BFF Mankind! Now, THAT’S a swerve.
– Time for Mr. Socko! The Mandible Claw is applied to Rock. The popular Mankind actually gets booed due to him attacking the even more popular Rock. It looks like The Great One’s strength is fading but he suddenly yanks Foley’s hand out of his mouth (well, that sounds lewd out of context) and hits a Rock Bottom outta nowhere! Rocky manages to throw an arm over Foley but HHH breaks it up right before three.
– Seemingly, a switch goes off in Show’s head as he realizes “I’m 7 feet tall and 500lbs, I should be killin’ bitches dead” so he clears the ring by himself, leaving just him and Mankind. Grody to the max, Show has a wedgie so I can see part of his ass cheeks. Oh yeah and Show hits a Chokeslam on Foley but who cares, get some bigger trunks Show!
– Show makes the cover but the refs on the outside pull the official ref, Jimmy Korderas, out of the ring! It’s the Ref Nexus as they all start mugging Korderas for being soft like Drake and crossing the picket line. It’s up to the guest enforcer Stone Cold to restore order as he opens up a fresh can of whoop ass on the refs. Austin becomes my favorite wrestler ever by punching Earl Hebner right in his fat face. Hahaha, EAD Hebner.
– Back in the ring, Rock hits a DDT on HHH as Austin runs in to make the count. Somehow, HHH kicks out! Awesome false finish. Everybody in the crowd totally thought that was gonna be the end. In fact, a lot of the fans thought that it was a three count and went nuts after HHH kicked out. Slowly but surely, disappointment set in as Austin made it clear that it was only a two count and they realized that their man Rocky didn’t win the title.
– Loud “Rocky!” chants fill the Charlotte Coliseum as HHH works the babyface over. Wait. ROCK BOTTOM! ROCK BOTTOM OUTTA NOWHERE! Rock could get the win here but, like a goddamn idiot, has to get all of his moves in so he goes for the People’s Elbow. It connects but Show pulls Austin out of the ring before he can count to three. While that’s going on, Bulldog whacks Rock in the head with a chair. HHH takes advantage of a stunned Rock by hitting the Pedigree while Austin murks Bulldog with a brutal unprotected chair shot to the head. Amidst all the chaos, Austin has no choice but to count three and award the victory to the man that put him on the shelf.
– I want to note something. As Rock was getting pinned, Mankind tried to get in the ring and break up the pin but Show stopped him. …WHY!? Wouldn’t you want Mankind to break up the pin so the match can keep going? What an idiot. So yes, in case you needed a reminder, Big Show is the dumbest wrestler in the history of this great sport.
– Begrudgingly, Austin tries to raise HHH’s hand and hand him the title. The Game decides to be douchey about it, however, and gets uppity with Austin leading to him getting dropped on that stack of dimes he calls a neck with a Stunner! Well, HHH looked like a real goober there, haha. Despite the fact that he wasn’t even in the damn match, the show closes with Austin having a beer bash.
– Good match to close out to the show. While chaotic, I was never bored at any point during the match and the last few minutes were really good.
This show was definitely a mixed bag. The first half was pretty solid, especially compared to other shows in this series. The second half was kinda bad and on it’s way to being outright terrible until the main event which was enjoyable. Certainly not the worst show I’ve seen in this series but I can’t honestly recommend going out of your way to watch.
