Formed In Melbourne in 2003 Ne Obliviscaris which translates to “Forget Not” are a avant-garde progressive metal band. After the success of their debut album “Portal of I” the band gained international attention with a successful tour of Japan and supporting the likes of Cradle of Filth, Devin Townsend and Between The Buried and Me among others and after a hugely successful crowd funding campaign the band were able to release their second album “Citadel”.

To say this album is epic is a huge understatement, there’s so many layers to this band its impossible to say the band are any particular genre. A lot of the tracks are made up of beautiful melodic instrumental passages which then bleed into some super heavy almost death metal style riffage and guttural vocals.

This is truly an album you need to listen to from start to finish in one setting, Each of the songs is an intricate part of a story that really needs to be listened to from start to completion. To listen to one song of the album is almost like grabbing a book and opening it up to a random spot and start reading. The band is truly amazing and the mixing and recording is second to none being mixed and mastered the legendary Jens Bogren of Opeth and Katatonia fame and produced by Troy McCosker and violinist/clean vocalist Tim Charles.

This album is something that really needs to be experienced to understand the complexities and the effort the band has put into this. This album isn’t for everyone and i’m pretty sure the average metal fan will just shake their head at it but if you can appreciate the effort put in the abilities of all those involved you will really love this album
