After many line up changes and legal issues the band now known as Entombed A.D. Have released their debut/ 10th studio album depending on who you ask.
Having made a massive impact on the Swedish death metal scene in the early 90s before changing up their sound into a hard rock and death metal fusion known “death n’ roll” and making an even bigger impact on the world wide metal community with their 93 release “Wolverine Blues” being considered death metal a classic.
This new album is return to the musical style they were doing in the early 2000s and any of these songs would have fit on the albums “Inferno” or “Morning Star” and while that’s not really a bad but a majority of the fans crying out for a return to the straight up death metal sounds the likes of “Left Hand Path” or “Clandestine” albums.
The highlight of the album is in my opinion the track “Eternal Woe” this track is so much more heavier and brutal than anything else on the album. While there are other great songs like ”Pandemic Rage”, “Bait and Bleed” and “Soldier of No Fortune”, “Eternal Woe” is just head and shoulders above the rest.
While this is a incredibly heavy album with a lot of groove infused parts amongst the old school death metal I just feel that its a little by the numbers and the whole issue with the name and the possibility of the original line up of the band releasing their own material under the name “Entombed” its just gonna hold these guys back when they could be much better and bolder.
Here’s hoping they don’t end up in Queensryche or L.A. Guns territory.
