“Nickelodeon August” continues with an actual review! It’s taken more over three years to get to this. I’m excited to do so because I apparently watched way too much television as a child. These Nick shows are all from memory. Other shows I have to research, these are just off the cuff. I remember playing outside a lot too though. Parents, help your kids not be so gross by making them play outside. They can watch cartoons in the morning and at night. That’s it for my PSA; now for the fun.
I’ll just let my hate for Norbert be known right now. As a second child who felt underappreciated and often overlooked, I was behind Daggett to win their little skirmishes. I’m sure he did a few times, but it seems the cocky older brother normally got the upper hand. I feel so bad for Dag (not David Alan Grier) because he never had a chance to succeed. His middle name is “Doofus” for god sakes. That poor stupid spoot head. Just the arrogance of Norbert is enough to rile me up.
I weirdly remember watching the first episode I’m pretty sure when it debuted. I would have just turned 8. Thank god I remember that and not how to do long division. The poor beavers got booted from their homes and then in the second half of the episode decide to see how long they can stay awake. I’ve never felt like any show has come closer to my life. I am looking over the episode list on Wikipedia and its crazy how many plots are all about Daggett. I guess it’s easier to write for a loveable loser. Ben Stiller has made a career out of it.
The show is a little crude. Not in an offensive way, but it feels unpolished. I think that is a good thing but it is not something you’d see now. Everything feels too slick in the world of children’s television. Go compared “Girl Meets World” to “Boy Meets World” and then agree with me. It’s not even that it’s that much worse of a show, it just feels to sleek. The poor Shawn Hunter analog dresses like a fashion model. Sorry, off topic again. You can watch almost all of the four season of this show. So I’ll end this review with talking about the episode you can’t watch. The episode is called “Bye, Bye Beavers” and it’s kind of funny. Basically Norbert reveals to Daggett that they’re fake and the show has been cancelled. I don’t think I’m legally allowed to link to it. Just search the title in Youtube. It’ll be worth the 10 minutes.
