Body Count is back in the house mother fuckers! That’s right the controversial thrash metal outfit lead by everyone’s favourite gangsta rapper and Law and Order SVU start Ice T is back and back in a huge way.
Still riding high in the media’s collective conscience after all these years from their 1992 release cop killer and all the ridiculous controversy that surrounded it BC is back after a 8 year absence with probably their most powerful album yet
The entire theme of “Manslaughter” seems to based around how Ice T views the world now and how things have changed. On “Pop Bubble” he feels music has gotten weaker and more commercialised and he feels reality tv has ruined peoples perception of the world (which is hilarious because he and his wife Coco have their own but its cool for him to attack the Kardashians). He also thinks that men in general are becoming weaker on the title track “Manslaughter”. His take on anonymously hating on social media with the main single “Talk Shit, Get Shot” or acting as wannabe gangstas on the appropriately titled “Wanna Be Gangsta” or on the track “Get A Job” asking for handouts instead of providing for yourself or even being a lying junkie and exploiting your friends and family on the track “Back To Rehab”. Its clear that T has had enough!
But its not all serious there still room for a bit of levity. They redo Ice T’s classic “99 Problems” as a way for T to take the song back and show today’s audience that he did the original and Jay-Z did the remake which I do feel is a bit unnecessary as it doesn’t really add anything to the song.
They also do their own take on the Suicidal Tendencies classic “Institutionalised” which includes Ice T threatening his wife for interrupting him playing Xbox, him arguing with phone support on losing his email password and threatening to put pork in a gun to shoot a vegan with.
All in all this album is really well done from start to finish. Its heavy, Its hard and its really brutal in places with them really stepping up the metal and even including Jamie Jasta on vocals on “Pop Bubble”. Musically its great and lyrically Ice T is full of venom.
This whole album is fantastic and I cant recommend it enough. I suggest all metal fans everywhere get this album and listen to it at least once because you will not be disappointed.
