In case you have been living under a rock Arch Enemy have had quite the shake up. Just months prior to releasing their latest album it was announced long time vocalist Angela Gossow has step down from fronting the band to expand on her career in music management.
In steps new vocalist Alissa White-Gluz, now former vocalist for the band The Agonist. Also worth noting that Christopher Amott also left the band again to be replaced by Nick Cordle.
The album itself is actually quite a disappointment. While there is really nothing wrong with it and Alissa slots quite seamlessly into Angela’s role but musically the album sounds like the last 3 albums that came before it. Lead Guitarist and Band Leader Michael Amott seems to have a basic formula nailed down and doesn’t deviate from it one bit.
Now I was once a huge fan of Arch Enemy, I have seen the live twice and I even went as far as collecting the bands EP and single releases for the Bsides but some where between the last few albums everything has just become so formulaic that the band lost all its appeal to me. The novelty of being a Melodic Death Metal band with a female vocalist has worn off long ago and they unfortunately need more than to offer to get my attention
That being said I cannot really fault the album for doing anything particularly bad or anything but if you’ve heard one Arch Enemy album you have heard them all.
Only check this album out if you are a true die hard fan or possibly have never heard the band before, its a good a place to start as any
