Kill Devil Hill are a band that were never really on my radar, I mean when your claim to fame is your star member is the least interesting member of Pantera its not something that I was really willing to chase up and the little I had heard just came across as generic southern hard rock/metal.
The new album “Revolution Rise” is pretty good but it seems about 15 years too late. The album is this kind of through back to late 80’s early 90’s metal somewhere similar to Skid Row with Bach or old school Alice In Chains but with more of a harder edge with a little bit of southern rock thrown in a little bit like Black Label Society but without that level of creativity.
Another thing about these guys that I find really strange is that live on stage they are really quite heavy and frontman Dewey Bragg really screams out the vocals and they do a fantastic cover of Pantera’s “Mouth for war”. Go to youtube now a look up any live clips of this guys from their most recent tour and compare that to what they do on album and you wouldn’t even know they were same band.
Highlights on the album include the tracks “Leave it all behind” which is the lead single from the album and the closing track “Life Goes On”
Only really pick this album up if you’re wondering what Rex Brown is up to now days or you want something to listen to while waiting for the next Down EP to be released
