Out of the ashes of one of South Australia’s premier metal bands, and one of my personal favourites, Double Dragon comes Voros.
In just over a year the band have made their presence felt across the Australian scene with their crushing brand of groove laden metal and showing crowds their live and energetic shows supporting the likes of Kataklysm and Gotsu-Totsu-Kotsu.
The Sky Burial Eps were originally released in 3 parts digitally over 2013 has now been collected together and all six tracks have now been released physically on cd.
While there is only 6 tracks as its a EP only they are six extremely powerful tracks. Mixed and mastered by Darren Jenkins having worked with the likes of Mortal Sin, Daysend and DepriVation this EP sounds so crisp and clear. I’m pretty sure i’ve mentioned this before but nothing I love more than a band managing to get an amazing production on their first release. Some bands benefit from sounding raw and muddy and some bands don’t because you need to hear the musicianship on the tracks and this is on of the later.
While it is groove metal its still extremely brutal and heavy. Front man Ty’s vocals guttural and raw and really fits in neatly on this album amongst Liam’s drumming and Davin and Cameron’s guitar play. Those two work extremely well together and Joshy’s bass line is a tight groove that sits awesomely underneath it all and brings it all it together.
Stand out tracks on this album include the intro track “Woes of Disdain” the heavy as fuck “Pollaxe” which made it to No. 4 on Triple J’s national Unearthed metal charts and the closing track “Archaic Persuasion”.
Having already made such a hug impact on the local scene this band definitely has a huge and long career in front of them and this EP and this six tracks and a fantastic place for them to begin.
