Lost Society are one of the many many retro thrash bands to emerge in the recent years
Formed in Finland in 2010 by then 14 year old guitarist and vocalist Samy Elbanna and wearing their Big Four influences on their sleeves Lost Society made their name by competing in a global Battle of the bands in 2012 and coming in at third place. This lead to them being signed by Nuclear Blast and releasing their first Album “Fast Loud Death” in 2013 to much appraise.
Their 2014 follow up “ Terror Hungry” is just as fast and thrashy as the previous release but the songs seem to have more substance. Even though the song subjects and still the same goofy partying and drinking themes as before the songs are much longer and have much better structure than what came before. Basically what im saying is the songs aren’t over in less than a minute and a half
The main issue I have with all these retro thrash bands is that they just too repetitive and they all sound the same. I don’t feel that way with these guys though. I can listen to an enjoy the album after multiple listenings and I would put it in the same class as the likes of Havok, Toxic Holocaust and Warbringer.
The guys are all great musicians and all have the necessary chops to not only make it as in the thrash genre but be some of the top new players in the game.
Stand out tracks on this album include “Game Over”, “Lethal Pleasure” the lead single from the album, the title track “Terror Hungry”, “F.F.E” which stands for Fucked For Ever and the album closer “Wasted After Midnight”.
While they are not doing anything new here and they certainly aren’t reinventing the wheel they still are creating great music and have a very long career in front of them if they can keep thrashing at this pace without burning out
And I definitely considered them a much better band than Municipal Waste
“Terror Hungry” is due out April 7th
