Gods of Grind Have Returned
After reuniting and touring since 2006 Carcass have put out their first original full album since 1996 and it’s amazing.
A lot of people are calling it a reunion cash in but there’s such substance here that I’m will to go out and call this the album of 2013
Continuing the sounds of their last 2 albums, Swan Song and Heartwork and leaving the more grindier elements behind Carcass have forged ahead with a very Thrash/Melodic driven Death Metal sound.
The album opens with an instrumental track titled “1985” because clearly that era of melodic thrash style mixed with the extreme metal is where that sound is rooted in
The lyrics as always are super technical specific with correct medical terms and the guitar work on this album is impeccable. From the Solos to the thrashing riffs on tracks like “Captive Bolt Pistol” and “Thrashers Abattoir”
The Vocals are very typical off melodic death metal and really do a fantastic way of getting the aggression of the tracks and the subject matter across and they are as gruesome and as graphic as always. Don’t believe me? Google the lyrics to “Noncompliance to ASTM F899-12 Standard” that shits about as metal as it gets.
This album is pretty much a perfect blue print of what you want in a death metal album. With Andy Sneaps world famous production on top of it like the icing on the super brutal cake of awesomeness.
This album is a snap shot in time of what a band has built itself into overtime. Perfecting each part as it goes, drawing elements from all prior albums and influences, many noting the almost NWOBHM influences on the first half of the album.
There is elements of this album which will appeal to every type of metal fan. If they think there isn’t they clearly aren’t listening
Now I’ve heard a lot of only criticisms about how they haven’t progressed to far from Heartwork and how they are ignoring their grindcore roots but this album truly stands on its own above all that
I am calling this the album of 2013, I don’t think it can be touched
