ABC has finally succeeded in its third attempt to get Sophia Vergara over with Americans. “Modern Family” was the gateway for her to achieve great fame and a line of sheets at Kmart. Their first attempt was a terrible show with sitcom killer Nicole Sullivan called “Hot Properties”. I should clarify in saying that Sullivan only kills sitcoms if she’s not paired up with Jerry Stiller. The second attempt was with the oddly intriguing show “Knights of Prosperity”. This show was considered an ensemble cast, but Donal Logue was the main man. It sadly was a vehicle bomb the likes of which Al-Qaeda would be jealous of. When this program debuted in 2007, I tuned in because of Mr. Logue. I loved “Grounded for Life”. This show was nothing like that, but he has that certain greasy every man charm I can only dream of having. “Knights of Prosperity” did not last nearly as long as his previous starring role, but based on his IMDB profile, he seems to be doing okay without it. Same for Sofia Viagra (which is the clever name a coworker came up with). It doesn’t seem like the other four co-stars are faring as well, but that’s Hollywood baby.
The knights were spurred on by a very noble goal. They were a bunch of working class stiffs not going anywhere. They apparently watched some variation of Robin Hood that gave an awful message because they botched the classic credo. They were going to steal from the rich and famous and give to the poor. By poor, I mean themselves. After writing that I’m not so sure they were in the wrong as far as Robin Hood goes, but it just felt like a stretch.
The pitch of this program is now my favorite part of the whole program and it wasn’t even on air. Apparently all the crack executives at ABC loved it from the start. The pitch was, “Let’s create a show where we rob Jeff Goldblum.” That was it. Think tanks closed everyone, we’re headed home early. I think the fact that Jeff then left to do a different network’s show really killed the steam. It was built upon such solid ground and Jeff Goldblum screwed it up.The gang then was made to rob Mick Jagger, which just isn’t as good. Here they are robbing that lady from the Rolling Stones: Mick’s apartment
Like I said, it’s a fun idea. Okay so I didn’t say that; big deal. They burgal a famous person so each week maybe people will tune in to see Mick Jagger, Ray Romano, or Kelly Rippa. Then hopefully they fall in love with this rag tag of fairly stereotypical ethnics and their white leader. The show title I think had a lot to do with the failure despite the somewhat entertaining product. I’m really not getting “Knights of Prosperity” from the description.
That best part of this show for me is one Rockefeller Butts. He is the muscle of the group. The hilarity ensues thought since he is a large and very deep voiced black man who is sensitive. You can see him above in red.You can also see him be funny below:
Presenting some angels with Butts
It’s weird how so many programs like this come and go. I watched this show for the first couple weeks. Then I just stopped. I liked it, I just wasn’t impressed. It was good place filler, but I have video games and the internet for that. Let’s not forget 6 hours of wrestling minimum. It may be a little harsh, but this quote from Adam West in the old TV Land commercials makes my point, “Life’s too short to watch crap.”
