Fanime 2023 Recap

Hello humanoids. Once again it is my yearly review of the anime convention, FanimeCon. so let me take you through summary of what transpired over that weekend.

Now the first thing up is of course the registration line. On day zero it was quite a long line, and unfortunately had to be capped. Things got better the next days and the lines were well organized (unlike other conventions that handled long lines that went across streets).

Now we’re onto the programming, Fanime as usual has a wide assortment of entertainment for attendees. Most particularly the panels. The area where Fanime really shines. Every possible subject to discuss and present in the sphere of otaku interest was present (a long with the panels I’m involved with, An Uncensored Hentai Review and the Cosplay wrestling Federation).

The cosplays gatherings also led in good fan driven programming. They were well run and included a wide variety of cosplay themes (ranging from anime to Star Wars, to pro-wrestling). There were a lot of impressive costumes to see. Overall with just cosplay in itself, Fanime has always been a great bastion of cosplay variety.

The dealers room was the same as usual in terms of vendors. There were plenty of things to buy but it would have been a good improvement to have more variety than previous years. Although it was nice to see cosplayer Stella Chu set up a booth for one day, and the bay area transit system BART debuting their anime style mascots with freebies to give out at a table.

On more miscellaneous matters that surround the convention, there always seems to be good eateries opening up within the convention center area. Especially the further you went down San Carlos street.

And once again the fan made party in the park known as ParkCon was held. With an increase of DJs playing and even people dancing to anime music while a projection screen plays anime clips.

Overall, it was a fun and very well run year. Fanime lives up to it’s fan driven nature, and manages to deliver something for everyone.
