A little late by a month, but time for the recap of Anime Los Angeles!
We had some vehicle trouble, so we arrived late on the first day. But not much went on that day, so not all bad. The day after on Friday is when things are started to heat up. The panel of the Cosplay Wrestling Federation was held once again, and the championship title was on the line this time. Skeletor defended his belt and successfully retained it. But Fanime will see if he can continue this streak.
As for my usual panel of An Uncensored Hentai Review, it was not approved this year. Most likely since construction at The Gateway hotel has temporarily made certain rooms unavailable. So we are gonna have to wait until next year to give everyone in Anime LA a good helping of tentacle love. But there were other hentai panels, and one had a person demonstrating proper choking. Love all around.
A panel that was definitely returning was one run by former Conan skit comedian, graphic designer and good friend of mine, Pierre Bernard. He answered questions about his career in a Q&A session, and did his usual drawing panels. This time around though, he drew an even bigger crowd for the hentai themed version.
Speaking of well known people and hentai, I got interview Kaho Shibuya again. The interview was set up at a short notice, so I had to buy the tripod I needed at break neck speed (I still had the tag on it at the convention). This time around I focused more on her voice acting career. We had a good chat, and she even remembered me from the interview at Hentai-con (why wouldn’t she?).
The other guests I tried to get an interview with was Femm, but they were not taking interviews at all. But I did manage to catch their concert as well as the autograph session. Their concert was the first in a two parter that also featured Brats (who also had a good performance). The show had Femm doing their best at being mannequins, and same wise for the autograph session. In addition, they had some items on sale, that included an audio cassette (yeah, they still get made) of their album of covers from the 80 and 90s. A unique act that never fails to impress.
Then the thing that I look forward to during lunch time, the food trucks. Mostly the same variety as last year, but Okamoto Kitchen had preorders. I got to have a nice bento box of beef without waiting in line (a really long one).
That’s it for this year. I look forward to Anime Los Angeles 2021. In the meantime, enjoy pics of my favorite people, the cosplayers.
