It’s been a good few days for Star Wars fans: we got our first look at Solo (and breathed a collective sigh of relief at the not terrible-ness) and now Disney announces David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are writing and producing a new series of films for our favorite galaxy far, far away.
That’s right: Game of Thrones is coming to Star Wars – though I doubt we’ll get the gratuitous nudity, skull-popping violence or twins getting closer than they should.
Oh, wait…
While we don’t have any details about when the series is set or who it will feature, it’s pretty good news. According to Kathleen Kennedy, “David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
The final season of Game of Thrones is set to premier in April of 2019, and the GoT showrunners are set to get started on Star Wars immediately after, according to their joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’ is complete.”
For disgruntled fans still trying to handle the anger stage of their PTSD after The Last Jedi, this might just be the thing. For the rest of us, we’ll debate who made for a better explosion: Cersei at the Sept of Baelor or Admiral Holdo.
