We don’t know what hidden magic director David Yates has up his sleeves quite yet for the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, but we can possibly expect more character-reveals, creatures, and frankly, a better plot than the first prequel film. Fantastic Beasts had big shoes to fill, as the Harry Potter series (book and movie, alike) are practically worshipped fan-favorites; however, it still had to introduce a lot of its main characters and it had to set up the story for this new world it’s in so that it can carry the promised five films that are to come to theatres. It ran a little slow and it didn’t quite feel like an HP film, but it did well enough to keep fans interested, especially with the big reveal at the end.
Fantastic Beasts 2 has already started production and is supposed to be set in the UK and Paris this time, following young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) also known to be Newt Scamander’s former professor. Both actors were great choices for the roles, especially since neither of them seem to age at all. Yer a wizard, Law and Depp.
It’ll be interesting (and nerve-wracking) to see how Yates portrays young Dumbledore and the relationship he is said to have with Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp). It won’t be easy; die-hard fans who know the HP lore to the tee have very strong opinions about the much-debated relationship. Lucky for us, Yates has respected the HP name and story for years, so fans shouldn’t worry.
