MARVEL ANNOUNCES THAT OLD RELEASE SCHEDULE NO LONGER IN REAL LIFE CONTINUITY

Marvel-Cinematic-Universe-Phase-3-Timeline

Comic books’ influence on Hollywood is now so strong that even blown deadlines are being adapted now. Well, okay, not so much blown as shifted. The release schedule for the MCU is now just as convoluted as the stories themselves as Marvel have announced a re-jigging of the schedule for ‘Phase 3’.

First Marvel announced a sequel to this year’s Ant-Man, with July 6 2018 set to see the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp. Marvel described this as marking “the first Marvel Studios film named after its heroine”, a really creative way of saying “look, we’ve almost done our first female-led movie, eh? Eh?

Release dates have changed for Black Panther (who will be appearing in next year’s Captain America: Civil War) and Captain Marvel (still not cast yet). The former will now be released February 16, 2018 and the latter pushed back to March 2019, Ant-Man and the Wasp having taken its spot. A blow to all the Carol Corps out there, but at least we’re getting Black Panther earlier, that’s a positive, right? February is traditionally a dumping month for studios, this doesn’t speak well of the mega-corporations hopes for the success of a movie with a non-white American dude lead. Let’s hope Black Panther proves that line of thinking wrong. Finally, Marvel announced that they will definitely have films coming out on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020. They just didn’t say what those films are going to be. Still, at least when Marvel gets asked where they see themselves in five years time, they have an answer. I bet Kevin Feige’s parents don’t call him directionless…
