Big Screen Scoop: Too Many Scoops On The Dancefloor

FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS MOVIE BEING MADE ONE DAY IN THE DISTANT FUTURE PERHAPS MAYBE

It’s a measure of just how hilarious the musical comedy stylings of Flight of the Conchords-New Zealand’s fourth most popular folk parody duo-are that even the distant possibility of a Flight of the Conchords movie is exciting enough for me to write about.

Since their cult HBO show ended six years ago, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement have certainly been very busy, respectively winning Oscars and being the bad guy in a Men In Black sequel (okay fair dues to Jemaine Clement, What We Do In The Shadows is good enough on its own to justify his cash-grab roles). That’s plenty of time to leave us waiting for a revival, and not only are the pair talking about touring in America some time later this year, but during press for his new film People Places Things (you have to love films with imaginative titles like that) Clement very, very tentatively talked about a FOTC film, saying  “We have actually started writing one. But who knows if it will ever be made, we’ve written some notes for some different film ideas. We’re not down to the stage where we’re going, ‘The film is going to be like this,‘ it could be this, this, this, this, this.’” I for one, cannot wait to see this, this, this, this or this, should it ever all come together.

SKULL ISLAND GETS WRITER, CANDY APPLE ISLAND STILL WAITING FOR SCRIPT APPROVAL

In this world of origin stories, reboots and reimaginings, you might ask yourself ‘where did King Kong come from?’ And you might well answer ‘Oh yeah, now I remember, Skull Island’. But then you might ask yourself, ‘but where did Skull Island come from?’ and then you might well answer ‘layers of lava that have erupted from an underwater volcano that have cooled and formed layers over the course of thousands of years’ and you would be right, but regardless there are maybe more interesting things about what was going on with Skull Island before those first intrepid interfering white people arrived on its shores, and the upcoming film about those things now has a writer.

Derek Connolly, a collaborator with Colin Trevorrow who most recently worked with the director on another monster island movie in Jurassic World, has signed on to work on Kong: Skull Island, the King Korigin story starring Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston and directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts that I actually thought had begun shooting already, which shows how much I know. Uh, I mean, I’m an expert on all things Hollywood, be sure to check in with Big Screen Scoop Wednesdays and Fridays!
