WELCOME (BACK) TO THE X-MEN ROSE BYRNE – HOPE YOU SURVIVE THE EXPERIENCE (AGAIN)!
It’s been revealed by X-Men: Apocalypse screenwriter Simon Kinberg that Rose Byrne will be reprising her role as Moira MacTaggart from First Class, having missed out on appearing in Days of Future Past. You may recall Moira was changed from the comics’ no-nonsense Scottish scientist to a doe-eyed CIA agent who impulsively stripped to lingerie to infiltrate a club in possibly the most gratuitous scene in movie history. You may also recall that First Class ended with Charles Xavier giving Moira the Superman 2 treatment by erasing her memory with a kiss. If Xavier shares Superman’s abilities of memory kisses and questionable ethics, one wonders if he also has Superman’s famed cellophane-throwing abilities.
Kinberg did not answer that question, but he did discuss MacTaggert’s role in the upcoming X-Men sequel in an interview with EW:
She’s a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them. It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one.
Kinberg also teased that Dazzler, the disco mutant, might be in the film, which would be amazing.
SUPERBOWL TEASES BLOCKBUSTERS, ALSO MAYBE THERE WAS A FOOTBALL GAME?
As you are no doubt aware, this weekend the Super Bowl took place, that special event in the American calendar where everyone gathers around to watch teasers for upcoming blockbusters, insurance commercials starring celebrities and also a game of American football happens. I understand the Patriots won, so I’m sure everybody was happy. All Americans love patriots, right?
But leaving that to one side, we can instead look at the brief glimpses shown of upcoming big movies. There’s the intriguing looking Tomorrowland, which balances being based on a Disney Land ride with being directed by the great Brad Bird, Terminator Genesys, the film with the odd title that leaves us asking “Y?” in several different senses, and Jurassic World, which stars the Internet’s favourites, Chris Pratt and dinosaurs, meaning it might actually have been formed by a more benevolent Skynet. You can check them all out below.
There were of course, many more film given Superbowl spots. Every film coming out this year for example. Possibly some that have already been out. Was there a Citizen Kane teaser? If you want to let me know, if you want to tell me which Superbowl teaser was your favourite or if you want to point out a more gratuitous scene in movies than Rose Byrne: Victoria’s Secret Agent, you can find me on Twitter. See you again on Friday!
