Direct to DVD Dissection: The Coed & The Zombie Stoner

Direct to DVD Dissection returns once again with the Asylum. We’ve seen how Asylum can handle a female driven action movie, and a swords and sandals film with Johnny Nitro. Now, we have Asylum going the sex comedy route, with zombies!

Wait, what?

The Dissection
The first minute of the movie has two naked girls running right toward the camera, and a zombie attack with college people in ZMB sweaters on, as one girl fends off a zombie with a dildo. That should tell you if this movie is for you. The thing about THE COED AND THE ZOMBIE STONER is that it wears the entire premise on it’s sleeve.  The characters are stock and the story is basic. However, it’s a movie called THE COED AND THE ZOMBIE STONER, so that might not be the most important aspect to this film.

So, the film has it right from the start that this is just this goofy comedy with a lot of different tropes and a whole lot of gratuitous nudity in it. There are points in the movie where they stop the film to show off either some naked teens, or some kind of cheap gore effects.  It’s a movie that is all about that, cause it really has nothing else.

As mentioned, the story is just kind of basic, even the premise of the romance is kind of stock, and is just to frame a zombie attack around this college atmosphere.  The characters in the film are all just the college stereotypes, with acting performances to match and doubling as zombie food.  Even the protagonists are kind of two note, to differentiate them from the one note supporting cast.

The movie is really in on the joke. You got these different jokes that reference TV shows and movies. We have a cat named after George Romero and using bits from other comedies in this film.  Again, depending on what your thoughts on these kind of jokes is how you will react to this film.

The Verdict.
The film is only for those who know what they’re getting into. It has enough tricks in it’s bag to keep those people entertained. If you’re not, there’s other things to watch.
