Nocturnal breed are a blackened thrash metal band formed is Oslo, Norway in 1996. Born during a time when in a scene where True Norwegian Black Metal reigned supreme Nocturnal Breed forged a sound combining the extreme raw sound or Black Metal with the speed and precision of 80s Thrash Metal
After touring with the likes of Emporer and Aura Nior as well as playing Norways’ Inferno Festival “Napalm Nights” is the bands first album after remaining dormant for 7 years.
Taking a gigantic leaf out of Sodom’s 1989 album “Agent Orange” this entire album is thematically about Vietnam War and appears to be also based a lot around the film Apocalypse Now. The entire time I was listening to it all I could do was think of this album. Its almost like they took the Sodom album and injected as much black metal intro the thrash sound as possible with even having a guest appearance from Nocturno Culto of Darkthrone.
Stand out tracks on this album are the opening track “The Devil Swept The Ruins” which really sets the tone for the whole album, very first wave of black metal more than classic thrash. The 13 minute long title track“Napalm Nights” which uses a lot of great samples in the intro to really set the Vietnam tone, its a great thrash track. “The Bitch Of Buchenwald” which almost sounds like a Motorhead head song with S.A Destroyer doing his best Lemmy impression with the vocals. And the last track “Krigshisser (D.N.K.)” which is a straight up True Norwegian Black Metal song straight out of the second wave of black metal
Overall this album is great if you are a fan of the Tutonic Thrash acts such as Sodom, Kreator or Destruction but you want something more extreme with that blackened edge to it and trve and kvlt black metal fans will also really enjoy this album too
