Welcome, ladies & gentlemen, to another edition of Film Rave! With the recent closing of Blockbuster stores nationwide, I decided to do a tribute to the video store. I’m lucky enough to have a local family owned video store near me, so I rented three movies to review and commemorate the video store. Those films being “Byzantium”, “Saturday Morning Mystery” & “The Tower”. I also discuss my video store memories, as does Sly Stallone.
The Cinemasochist’s Dungeon of Horrors makes it’s triumphant return this week, adding to the festivities. The film being inducted is the latest Friedberg/Seltzer joint, “The Starving Games”. Can you guess which film it’s parodying? Do you really care? It’s not as if they don’t fill the film with random references. Can you tell how much I loathe them?
I also go over (two weeks worth of) recent watches, including “Anvil: The Story of Anvil”, “El Santos vs. La Tetona Mendoza”, “Carrie”, “Cloud Atlas”, “Running on Empty”, “Last to Surrender”, “Pray TV”, “The Silent Partner”, “Bloodstained Memoirs”, “Mad Monkey Kung Fu”, “The To Do List”, “Going Berserk”, “New Jack: Hardcore” & “Mahakaal: The Monster” a.k.a. the Bollywood “A Nightmare on Elm Street”.
Enjoy!
