It’s a random double feature this week, as I pair the long-awaited “Solomon Kane” film (based on a Robert E. Howard character) with “Prince Avalanche” (based on quirky characters created by the quirky David Gordon Green). The only tenuous link between these two films is that they are indeed films. That and they both have good cinematography, a word I struggled to say on this episode.
Two films that have a lot in common are the newest inductions into the Cinemasochist’s Dungeon of Horrors (with the honor of being the first double feature induction), “A Haunted House” & “Scary Movie 5”. These two horror parodies, more specifically lamponing “Paranormal Activity”, are what’s wrong with current satire. It’s a good thing satire is going strong on the internet, as the film world’s version of it is laughable. Actually, they don’t make you laugh, which is the problem. That’s a corny joke, but better than any of these so-called parodies can provide.
I also discuss recent viewings, including “We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story”, “Los Enchiladas!”, “The Iceman”, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation”, “Strike” & “For a Good Time, Call…”. Enjoy!
