Welcome to another edition of Film Rave! Today’s theme is an Eco-Terror Double Feature. The first film is “The Bay”, a found footage horror film centering around a pollution outbreak. It’s directed by Barry Levinson (“Rain Man”, “Good Morning, “Vietnam”, “Wag the Dog”). The second film is “Phantom”, not the Billy Zane superhero film, but a submariner drama centering around an experimental nuclear bomb. It stars Ed Harris, David Duchovny, William Fichtner & Lance Henriksen.
Not an Eco-Terror themed film, but certainly a movie that’s a threat to the world as a whole, is “My Uncle: The Alien”, which is inducted into the Cinemasochist’s Dungeon of Horrors. It centers around the President’s daughter, who’s been kidnapped for ransom but believes her uncle, who’s an alien, will save her. The real message is that rich people are poor people with money. I’m not kidding.
I also discuss recent viewings, including “Citizen Jia Li”, “Rififi”, “The Last Rites of Joe May”, “Dr. Ehrlich’s Magic Bullet”, “Alligator” & “Addams Family Values”. The last two were watched with TheCutUp crew. Head on over to www.thecutup.net every other Monday and enjoy a double feature with fellow film fanatics.
Just a heads up. I’ll be going on vacation for a week, so there will be no episode next week. Episode 23 will occur in two weeks. Thank you for your patience!
