I’m not sure if I believe in karma, but if it exists, I’m probably due for some comeuppance from some Hollywood actors. I guess I’ll have to go win the lottery, get hit by a car and force my parents to adopt me a brother to start paying it forward. The only issue is that people I ridicule tend to famous and wealthy, so they really don’t need my help. Maybe I’ll give back to you poor souls that read this review (review). Everyone follow me on twitter @davethedave1670 to get your name on my pay back list. Thanks.
If you’ve seen it at all, you’ll know I’m referring to “My Name is Earl”. The name doesn’t really accurately set you up for what is about to happen, except that his name is Earl. Right Earl?
That guy is Earl. I don’t want to have to tell you again. He apparently has been a delinquent and a vagrant his whole life. He seems pretty easy going and nice, but I guess winning millions of dollars will do that. I know if I won I’d likely never argue with anyone again. I’d give them $100 to make them be quiet. Earl takes his money, and like Jed Clampett, starts spending money like he’s about to suffocate in a tin man suit and die. Unlike the man with all the Texas tea, Earl starts living in a hotel and not a mansion. He lets his idiot brother live with him and they befriend the maid at the building. Jed should be ashamed forcing his nephew to drive him around and making that poor old woman fight a kangaroo. All Earl ever did was help his brother and befriend that maid.
Earlalso is still in contact with his ex-wife and her new husband. I find it hard to believe that Earl was such a bad guy. He acts pretty nice to his horrible old wife and he’s exceedingly cool with her new man. Crab Man and Joy seem equally doomed for divorce ally, but who’s to say? Crab Man seems so cool that he could probably make it work with anyone. I don’t blame Joy at all. Look at this man:
The show would usually follow Earl and Randy going around trying to fix horrible things they had done. When they seek out the victims of these misdeeds, they normally find that their lives have gone horribly awry and the seemingly inconsequential thing Earl did was the cause. They dynamic duo will then do their best to fix it. Earl only won $100,000 so I don’t see how all these fixes could have happened, but maybe that’s why he never finished.
Well that’s not true. In the series premiere of “Raising Hope” a news cast announces that “A small-time crook with a long list of wrongs he was making amends for has finally finished, and you’ll never guess how it ended.” Sadly they never tell us. “My Name is Earl” was cancelled after season 4 and they couldn’t find a new network to run new episodes. Ratings had been dropping and seemed strong enough to warrant being picked up, but the series creators claimed creative differences with the interested parties. So they started “Raising Hope” and now make reference to Earl and his pals from time to time.
I, like most of America it seems, tuned in to watch “My Name is Earl” when it first came on and then just kind of stopped. I got bored with the show to be quite honest. The premise was fine and the actors were too, something about it just didn’t click with me. Maybe it was a little too “network” for me, I don’t know. I do know that star Jason Lee has mentioned that a movie is in the works, but…..come on. It took “Arrested Development” like 10 years to get their stuff together. I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for this one. If you’re stuck at a relative’s house and this show is on, it’s good enough to make it through. I don’t think I’d ever seek it out, much like the networks that passed on continuing the series. Sorry, no more good deeds.
