Over the past few months, you’ve read articles teasing “POP”, the latest short film from Eyes Alive! Productions. The time has finally come for it’s release! Before you watch it, here’s a little more information on the film:
“POP” is a dark comedy directed by James Chappell & Patrick Irving. It stars Irving as Malcolm, a suburbanite who seemingly has it all. A beautiful home and a loving wife. However, he hides a very dark secret. The film has already won four awards in it’s festival run, including Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor and Best Sound at the 2 Days Laughter Festival in the UK, where it was also nominated for Best Picture.
Having seen the film, I feel it’s deserving of those rewards. It’s deliciously demented while retaining beautiful cinematography, despite it’s rather dark nature! The utilization of a laugh track throughout perfectly captures it’s mockery of the generalized, “Leave it to Beaver” style view of happiness. I found it to be very funny and fulfilling!
