A Dviant Disquisition: The Kimora Klein Interview

JD: I first started talking to Kimora Klein during the Christmas of 2009. I wouldn’t remember that detail but she was wearing a Santa hat in her avatar for her Twitter profile, and for whatever the reason that has stayed with me. I also remember why I started talking with her; she was friends with (the now retired) Sierra Skye, and since I had a big crush on her I would follow just about anybody she suggested. My blind devotion to lust paid off as Kimora became one of my most consistent sources of flirtation fodder, and friend. While not yet a breakout star, Kimora was dedicated to her fanbase and was on the verge of launching her own pay site when tragedy struck in early 2011. Nearly killed in a horrific automobile accident, she’s now back home after months of hospitalization and I could hardly think of another woman I’d want to have a conversation with to start my stint at this site.

What got you started in porn?

Kimora: Well, I’m friends with this couple that have been in the industry since maybe 2007. The guy, Lee, was one of these talent scout dudes while his girlfriend, Sunshine, (who I’ve known since I was 12) did BTS and softcore extra work for Bang Bros. She did everything from setting up lights to playing the “bait” on the now (defunct?) gay site Bait Bus. I had just come back home to Miami after putting school in Chicago on hold when Sunshine told me that she was a few months pregnant. Lee admitted they were desperate for extra income and he told me he’d make a good amount if he sent a girl into Bang Bros. that they ended up shooting. I had already met some industry people that hung out at parties at Sunshine and Lee’s house, so I didn’t think it too terrible when Lee asked me if I would do a scene so he could make commission. I’ll admit that I’m a little bit of a push-over. I found out that everything was more regulated than I thought and said, “What the hell”. I was broke from the move anyway. February 19th, 2009 was the first time I had ever had that much money in my checking account. Everything after this was absolute gravy. I mean, talent gets tested for STDs more often than the general public does, I’m having a lot of fun, and I’m making great money. Why stop?

JD: So your first scene was for the Bang Bus? How does the pitch for that scenario go? Never having been filmed having sex in a van I just imagine it must be strange to talk it over, especially if you’re new. How much of the action was dictated to you before hand?

Kimora: The pitch is simple, everybody knows it’s supposed to look like I’m getting picked up off the street with an offer to make quick cash and I end up fucking someone. Even before I met my friends in the biz, I knew what BangBus was. I knew it obviously wasn’t real, and I thought it was pretty funny sometimes. Every detail aside from the dialogue was explained to me. Preston and I just improv’d all the dialogue. We even drove around for quite some time before starting to shoot looking for a location. Aside from the basic idea of it, the actual shoot was very on-the-fly.

JD: I had a buddy, two actually, that swore up and down it was legitimate. This was before they had ‘name’ girls doing it (I think Lisa Ann was just on this past year) and I couldn’t convince them that it wasn’t 100% authentic. Once I took up my little porn hobby, and actually met some of these ‘random pick-ups’ they came around to my side. And as a Goodfellas fan, I was a little sorry your scene didn’t end like an older one I saw where the guys yelled “Now get your fucking shinebox” and sped off. The rest of your shoot I did like however, even if you thought they made you to look like a little kid. Are you happy with the final product?

Kimora: Yeah, a bunch of idiots in my high school wouldn’t quit harassing me about how I could “disrespect” myself like that, etc. If you had any type of cognizant feature in your head you’d know that there would legally be NO way that shit could happen realistically. And yes, they could not have made me look any younger. I’ve always had that issue when trying to get booked since the beginning. I was 19, but didn’t look “teen” enough. Yes, I may have small titties, I’m big-boned and 5’7″, and graduated with a 5.87 GPA. So no, I don’t look like the cute oblivious amateur teenie that goes for the quick cash. As for that scene, in my opinion there are a lot of really unflattering angles and Shaggy just isn’t the cutest thing in the world. Like I said before, one of my deciding moments to stay in porn was the fact that I was able to fuck a guy that looked like that for my first scene ever. JD: First off, wow didn’t realize you were so smart! I mean its obvious you’re no dummy from our conversations, but a 5.87? Jesus, I think I was at like a 2.3 ( though I consider myself more lazy then incompetent). Its also funny to think of your gpa just beating out your height; I always forget that! Kimora: Ha, thanks. I’m much more of a creative than book smarts though. The majority of that GPA came from taking copious amounts of university level art-related courses like 2D, 3D, performance art, and art history. I hate hate hate math, but it’s one of those things I know I can do. I just hate to do it. Yeah I also find I’m a lot taller than most girls in porn. The next few scenes after working with Bang were for small companies and a few solo sites. A lot of things I couldn’t even find online afterward, but they were all based in South Florida. I actually also started doing a little bit of bikini modeling (my mom was a lingerie/bikini model forever so she encouraged that).

JD: Bikini modelling is fine by me! You know it, but I’m not sure if the readers do, that a simple picture of you in a dark bikini is one of my favourite things ever. Not just of you, but of all things photographed through time. Its a fine photograph. And I wont be so pervy as to ask for pics of your mom, but just know we’re all thinking about checking her out. But moving on from that, when did you start leaving state to shoot? I know on one of your more recent trips you went to New York, was that where you started when your territory expanded or did you go out west?

Kimora: I still haven’t figured out why you like that picture so much but nonetheless I’m really flattered! My first shoot out of FL was in LA for Belladonna’s DVD “Fuck Face”. I sent her a little audition when I saw her tweeting about who could give a blowjob worthy enough for the movie and fucking FLIPPED OUT when she wanted me. Like, I had a party in my bedroom. I was freshly 20, no agency, and not really too much of a clue about how studios hired in LA. Then I went home. I didn’t know anyone out there. It was quite the adventure. But yeah, if that doesn’t say dedication I don’t know what does. JD: I have that dvd. You know that since I bought it from you personally! What were your feelings about being on the dvd? Did you feel it was more legitimate then the site work? I ask as a creator  because even while the internet makes things live forever, everything just seems more real when you can hold it in your hand.

Kimora: Yes, I know! :D That DVD was fantastic. Ann Marie Rios was really fun to work with and it totally felt more legit than online work. It’s just the fact that its something tangible, exactly like what you’re saying. Plus, it was the first media ever I could sign for fans, which was really special for me.

JD: You totally should have won that blowjob contest. Thinking about that dvd made me look up another of yours, the elegantly titled ‘Young Black Girlfriends Who love Pussy 3’.  Thats a cover too, so congratulations! The only other dvd of your I can find seems to have been a twice released scene; its on The Princess of Persia 3 from Heatwave, released in October, and then in December the same scene (going by the pictures on the back boxcover) made it on Anarchy’s Princess of Persia. It seems strange, but I’ve seen more confusing releases in porn. But I guess more exposure is always a good thing! JD: Why is it upsetting? Is it a compensation issue or a personal matter? And obviously, blow right by that if its just not any of my business. But I had to ask. And I remember the great Kimora outing. Not a fun time for you. That was the first major derailment to your site, if I recall correctly.

Kimora: I’m just upset because I was told it was only for her site and never notified about the DVDs. Whatever. Anyway, yeah that whole parents-finding-out ordeal was probably the worst week in memory. It was incredibly publicized. The way I met Andy San Dimas was her running up to me going, “Hey! You’re Kimora, right? The girl whose parents found out about you doing porn?”

JD: Hmmm…so I can get rushed by Andy San Dimas if my parents think I do porn…Thats probably not what i should be taking from that. I do remember a lot of that happening though, but don’t recall how much it really slowed you down. Was that when you started doing the early morning cam shows I was always around for?

Kimora: Haha not rushed per se. Although it had nothing to do with my parents finding out, I did start early-morning camping on a shift for OnHerCam. That didn’t last too long, the times just werent working out for me. I dont really cam that often, but when I do, I go ALL out.

JD: What can you tell me about your ‘porn mom’, Karen Kougar?

Kimora: Well first things first, I have a ‘porn mom’ AND ‘porn dad’ (Karen’s hubby and master of all things on KimoraKlein.com). They’re some of the coolest, most sincere people I know. They didn’t just give my name a major boost, but they really do deserve the a ridiculous amount of credit. I’ve been to what we call ‘Kougar Mountain’ in NY twice to shoot until my pussy can’t take anymore (that’s kind of a blatant lie). Karen’s pretty funny though, we always crack jokes. And I always tell people I would NEVER be able to shoot with her. I mean, once I was fucking the shit out of Patrick Knight the night before he had to shoot four scenes with both of us and she screamed downstairs, “NOW, KIDS!”. Haha. Did I mention she’s drop-dead gorgeous?

JD: As I’ve gotten older I’ve come to appreciate older women, and while Karen still has some years on me I learned from Vincent Kennedy McMahon that “old chicken makes the best soup!” Sorry, thats a cheesy line but I love it and have been dying to work it in SOMEWHERE. Not long into your career you started your own free website, www.kimoraklein.com. When did you decide you needed one, and how much of it was hands on by you?

Kimora: Hahaha. Yeah, I initially bought the domain myself when I determined I was serious about porn. It was primarily a shitty little WordPress blog for the first few months I had it. After I met Tom and Karen Kougar, Tom had some great ideas and between my sitting behind him in the office and screaming “#FF00CC!!!!” (my favorite shade of pink in Hex code) as the graphic designer I went to school as and him doing some fantastic coding we had the new and improved site while still incorporating the old entires and bits of the old site. The design was a complete overhaul though. I strongly believe that porn sites need to start looking Web 3.0 like the rest of the Internet. I’m really happy with my site, and am itching to finish the paid members section and release the content I have stored.

JD: I do not know what web 3.0 is, but I know your site has pictures of you showering so if thats web 3.0 then I love it! just how close were you to being able to launch? It seems like a few weeks, reasonably.

Kimora: I WOULD like to shoot maybe 2-3 more scenes before cutting the ribbon. That’s less than a week’s work with the right people around. Translation: So close its frustrating!

JD: And obviously the reason it hasn’t gotten done is the car accident. I had no idea it happened for days. I was just chatting with some girls on twitter, when I got a direct message from Sara Jay asking if I knew what happened to you. Thats when I checked your account, and the only recent post was you in intensive care. What happened that night?

Kimora: The accident actually happened around 7:30 in the morning when I was on the highway on my way to my day job I had recently taken up for insurance benefits. I don’t remember anything, but according to witnesses this is what happened: I was in the center lane and a car cut me off. I swerved and lost control, going across the other two lanes and hitting the far right median. I hit the right median with such force that I bounced all the way across the other lanes to the left median and hit it perpendicular to traffic. Seconds later a big work van T-boned me on my driver’s side at about 80mph. My car was totaled and they had to tear off the driver’s side door to get me out. Apparently I was conscious because the first thing I told the EMTs (somehow with my broken jaw) was my dad’s cell number. I don’t remember anything at all though until a week of being inpatient in the hospital.

JD: At its worst, what was your outlook? Was there ever a time when, and I hate to even ask, that it looked like you may not pull through?

Kimora: Yeah, my mother was told there was a possibility that I wouldn’t wake up after being intubated when they were trying to get air back into my right lung. I don’t remember it, but my grandma said that I told my mom that I “had a great life” and that “it was okay”. I can confidently say I was conscious when I said that.

JD: It didn’t take long for your friends to reach out to fandom to help you. It couldn’t have been a week or two after the accident that Sara Jay was telling me about www.helpkimora.com. And I don’t know if I was one of the first donors, but I was there as soon as I heard about it. Did you know about it or have any planning? You were still in the ICU at this point (and probably for several more weeks)?

Kimora: I’m so grateful for all my friends, fans, and just generally anyone that cared. I have trouble remembering most of my being in ICU, so I can’t put a finger on exactly when I became aware of HelpKimora.com. I do remember signing a bunch of 8x10s in bed to give away to those that donated over a certain amount though.

JD: What was your day to day life like before you left the hospital?

Kimora: Well I was in two different hospitals. In the ICU, I was in bed for two weeks straight, 4 days of which I was intubated. Then I was moved to a regular room in the same hospital, where I had physical therapy once a week for 30 minutes. It was only really me practicing sitting up, which was the most excruciating thing ever. A few weeks later, I was moved to a rehabilitation hospital where I had physical, occupational, and speech therapy every weekday over a span of about three hours. My mom bought a cot and basically lived in whatever room I was in. She slept next to me, helped me get washed, fed me, emotional support.

JD: You’re a vegan so was it hard to keep up that lifestyle in a hospital? I’m sure they offer something but it can’t be what you’re used to doing at home.

Kimora: It wasn’t hard for me, it was hard for the kitchen. I hope I taught them to be more prepared for people with special diets because for the most part, I was just fed steamed veggies and Boca burgers. I am SO sick of Boca burgers now, I never wanna eat one again! The last few days of my stay they got a new nutritionist at the rehab hospital and the food got a lot more creative and filling. Go figure.

JD: Funny, but I figure you’d still rather be out of there then trying out their new cuisine! Your recovery seems to be going well, as you’re already back walking and were out dancing last night (nice pre-clubbing shirtless picture by the way!). I know its been a long time – six months now – but are you almost back to 100%?

Kimora: I don’t know… the food was REALLY good. Like, breaded garlic zucchini fritters? Yes please! The nutritionist inspired me to do a lot of the cooking that I’ve been doing recently. My recovery is going fantastic. I’m officially done with my physical therapy today and I’m excited to start working out “for real”. I’ve been about how close I feel to being “back” every day, and its extremely hard to tell just because I haven’t tried to do everything. Just the other day I realized I can’t jump on a hard surface barefoot because it hurts my hips like a bitch. I feel great, but the literal healing and flexibility of my body has got a ways to go. There’s really no way of telling just how long, but my surgeons tell me I’m ahead of the projected recovery time!

JD: Thats great! Now, back to perv stuff!! Are you cleared to have sex yet again? I know you’ve had the itch and have mentioned it on Twitter.

Kimora: Last week I was actually tweeting about giving a blowjob for the first time since the accident!
