The week of April 26th has an eclectic arrange of albums coming out. Although not in this article, bands and artists such as Otep, Holy Ghost, Emmylou Harris, All Time Low, and Steve Earle all have new material being released. That’s a mixture of electronica, metal, post-hardcore, and acoustic, amongst other genres. But this week’s releases will be quite the event.
Airborne Toxic Event – “All At Once”
This LA quartet is releasing their sophomore album, stemming off the incredibly hot buzz from their first, self-titled record. With singles such as “Changing” and “Numb,” there’s really no doubt this effort will do as well, if not better, than their debut. (Having toured extensively for the first record, the second round looks about as equal in that area. Upcoming shows include 4 nights in a row in 4 different venues in their hometown, and another 4 nights in 4 venues in NYC. Unique touring to go along with a unique variety of sound. This will be an album that will be talked about for quite awhile.

Bowling For Soup – “Fishin’ For Woos”
Bowling for Soup, a pop-rock band best known for their songs “1985” and “Girl All the Bad Guys Want,” is releasing a new album whose title sounds like what Ric Flair’s gonna do whenever he retires. For those interested, the first single, “S-S-S-Saturday” is currently available on iTunes, and sounds a bit like their material from when they reached their peak back in 2003. Originally intended to be an EP before a new album came out, ‘Fishin’ For Woos’ eventually became that album. A song that was supposed to be on the EP that is now intended to be a b-side to a song, “Dear Megan Fox,” sounds incredibly interesting, to say the least.

Silverstein – “Rescue”
Coming from Ontario, Canada, this 5-piece screamo band have done quite a lot since they formed in 2000. In 11 years, they’ve already sold four records, with ‘Rescue’ being the fifth. Single “The Artist” was released in conjunction with Record Store Day, so in supporting this band, you’re also supporting a band that believe in the act of going to record stores and supporting them! Lots of supporting to be shared. Look out for their next song “Burning Hearts,” which is scheduled to have a video made shortly. This band has been working as hard as they can, putting out as much as possible, and definitely deserve to be at least checked out.

Dirty Vegas – “Electric Love”
Not a lot of people would recognize this band. Having released the hit club song “Days Go By,” they haven’t really done much after that. That may be because they went on a three year hiatus from 2005 to 2008, but that’s neither here nor there. For their third album, they’re taking a rather unique approach to how fans can judge what they hear before they buy. Through their website (and their record company’s YouTube page), the electronic band has been releasing free previews of their entire effort every Tuesday up until its release, which means currently all songs are available for previewing at the OmRecords YouTube page. The first single “Electric Love” has an addicting, appropriately electric vibe to it, and should be listened to by all.

Bootsy Collins – “Tha Funk Capitol of the World”
Finally, Bootsy Collins proudly presents to you…the funk. That’s really all that needs to be said, but I’ll continue anyway. Bootsy has worked extensively in the area of funk. He’s worked with James Brown, George Clinton, and his original band The Pacemakers. He has many alter egos, much like Mr. Clinton, including Bootzilla and Casper the Funky Ghost. I can’t stress enough how funky this man is. Even opened up his own bass-learning school, called Funk University. For his newest album, he’s recruited his brother, Catfish Collins, and an array of artists ranging from Snoop Dogg to Bobby Womack, to a few randoms such as the Reverend Al Sharpton and Samuel L. Jackson. The first single, “Don’t Take My Funk,” shows that ol’ Bootsy still has it in him to show the people how meaningful the funk really is, even when he’s nearly 60 years old. If you want to just get down and boogie woogie like you’ve never boogie woogied before, this is definitely a must-buy for you.
So there you have it. This week’s essentials wrapped up in a nice little present for you all! Enjoy it, spread the word, and please, please…keep the music alive.
